Pomegranate Martini

Balance is a very important element in cooking, politics and life in general. Democrats need Republicans and visa versa. Acid needs alkaline and sweet needs savory. As we wind down this year I hope that if you have been following closely you have realized that most of cooking is just that. If you are sitting around thinking that you want to have a certain food and wonder how to make it delicious and satisfying, think about how to keep it in balance. It may end up boring or not to your liking, or it may end up being the most amazing thing that you have ever eaten. It will come down to two things in the end: the quality of the ingredients and the balance of the combinations.

Thanksgiving food recipes will continue tomorrow, but I thought I would add a little holiday cocktail to the mix.

Makes 2 Cocktails

  • 4 Shots Vodka
  • 1 Shot Grand Marnier
  • 2 Ounces Pomegranate Juice
  • Juice of 2 Mandarin Oranges
  • 1 Teaspoon Pomegranate Syrup

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Martini Glasses
  • Mortar and Pestle
  • Fine Strainer
  1. Fill shaker 1/3 full with ice.
  2. Either Pummel pomegranate seeds with a mortar and pestle or but the concentrated juice. I recommend the earlier.
  3. Strain juice.
  4. Add the juice and rest of the liquid to the shaker.
  5. Shake well.
